The Pinghunan-Yantiangang Railway is a freight branch line in Shenzhen. The 22.69-km railway connects Yantiangang and Pinghunan, transporting goods to the whole country and even the whole world by sea and by rail. The railway has been extensively involved in Shenzhen’s rapid development over the past three decades. However, with a bias in favor of efficiency, Pinghunan-Yantiangang Railway has torn apart the urban area it passes and the ecosystem in the area. This is a price paid for the previous stage of development.

Inspired by the theme of “railway forest”, Landtek creates “fun forest”, “dynamic forest”, and “lively forest” in the north section, middle section, and south section of the site respectively based on the current situation and planning of the surrounding urban area. We seek to sew up the urban area and its broken ecosystem with greens. Thus, the combination of forest beauty and railway stories will be a unique new name card of Longgang, and the Henggang Section of the Pinghunan-Yantiangang Railway can be a benchmark of ecological leisure in the Greater Bay Area. Meanwhile, the railway forest with both green dynamics and cultural influence will boost the renewal of the surrounding urban area and gradually form a highly integrated ecological urban area. It will become an urban landscaping practice in the populous super-large city in Asia.
