Buji area is the gateway of Longgang and the first stop from the core urban area of Shenzhen to Longgang. At present, Buji is facing opportunities for arterial traffic restructuring, industrial transformation and upgrading, and urban landscape reconstruction. Meanwhile, the site of Buji Station is facing common remaining problems of highly dense old urban areas like traffic chaos, split green spaces, and spatial scale imbalance.
Looking back, the Canton-Kowloon Railway constructed under an agreement between the Qing Government and the United Kingdom was opened to traffic in 1911. With the passing of time, Buji Station boomed together with the city. The saying “When steam whistle sounds, gold abounds” vividly describes the situation. The centennial story of Buji Station—one of the four existing century-old stations in Guangdong Province—is a microcosm of the history of Shenzhen. Guided by the design philosophy of “Buji: Slow Life and Continuation of a Century-old Railway Story”, Landtek fully taps into the history of the site and creates a railway street museum, in an attempt to activate the public spaces around the station and retain the “struggling and pioneering” city spirit that has been honored for a hundred years.
